I remember some earlier talk about voxels in the VRML spec. is it intended
that the cube with a solid hint be used for this, or could this be
considered for the next spec. While in terms of world creation it would
not be that helpful, I think that for scientific purposes, adding a voxel
node would enhance its applicability. We are looking at VRML as a standard
language for our research in visualization and would like to include data
from geo-physical surveying, etc. We could work on the spec for the node
itself if there were a possibility of getting it included. something like:

VoxelSet {
type <SQUARE, REGULAR, SCATTER, OCTREE, etc.>
width
height
depth
<filename, data> # either a link to a file which hold the data in a
# stadard format, or list the data here
}

The benefits for using this as a research and teching tool increase
significantly by adding such a node. This would allow volumes of
Geo-physical survey data, medical scans, etc to be included in worlds.
This would be especally helpful in virtual teaching.

Thanks for the time,
tim
