I tend to work in the coordinate system you mention. But in a recent
conversation with someone who uses the Alias PowerAnimator software,
he said that among Alias users, about half of them use the "Y is up"
convention while the other half use the "Z is up" convention.

I don't know anything else to substantiate this; but either system is fine
with me as long is it's clearly stated.
