Allow me to correct this latter sentence. Although the source is not
public, the SGI binaries are publically available for ftp. I'll
attach instructions for downloading and reporting bugs on these Beta
1a translators, below.

Instructions for downloading the Translators
The beta translators are located at an ftp site. The files are in
tar format so that you only need to get one file per translator.
Once the translator is in your system, you can tar -xvf file.tar to
extract the particular translator you are testing. The translators are
compressed so use uncompress translator.Z to uncompress them.
There are README files with each translator which detail how to use
the translator, what works, and what are the current known bugs.
So get on internet and follow the instructions below:
ftp via.net
(login as anonymous or ftp, use your address for password)
ftp> cd pub/acuris/ivbeta1
ftp> bin # for binary transfer
ftp> get IgesToIv_b1a.tar # Iges to Inventor beta 1a
ftp> get 3dsToIv_b1a.tar # 3DStudio to Inventor beta 1a
ftp> get ObjToIv_b1a.tar # Wavefront OBJ to Inventor beta 1a
ftp> get DxfToIv_b1a.tar # Autodesk DXF to Inventor beta 1a
ftp> get IvToRib_b1a.tar # Inventor to RenderMan RIB beta 1a
ftp> get AliasToIv_b1a.tar # Alias v6.0 to Inventor beta 1a
ftp> get SoftimageToIv_b1a.tar # Softimage to Inventor beta 1a

You will not be able to see the files in the directory,
so you need to type the correct name as outlined above.

You can send questions or bug reports to:
Eduardo F. Llach
Acuris
e-mail: [email protected]
Tel. 415 329 1969
You can ftp bug files with readme files to the same ftp site
under the directory pub/acuris/ivbeta1_bugs, as follows:
ftp via.net
(login as anonymous or ftp, use your address for password)
ftp> cd pub/acuris/ivbeta1_bugs
ftp> bin # for binary transfer
ftp> put myname_bugs.tar # your name followed by _bugs.tar
We recommend you create a README file explaining the problem
and tar this README file with the problem data files.
By using your name as a prefix you will prevent writing
over other people's files.
Please send Eduardo ([email protected]) e-mail indicating that
you have sent the files to the ftp site so that we can look
at them promptly.
