Annotation text is is feature in provided most graphics APIs. It is 3D
text whose position and size are transformed by the current
viewing/camera transformation, but is rendered such that it is legible
regardless (i.e. reads from left-to-right and rightside-up). This makes
it very nice for labeling things such as axis on graphs. As the graph
is rotated, the labels will remain oriented such that they are readable
by the user.

Annotation text is fairly easy to implement at the library level, but
as far as I can tell wouldn't be possible in VRML unless it is provided
as an attribute of 3D text.
