LANG:Animation/Behavior

As I recall from a few months ago in this list, It was suggested
that Behavior and Animation should be dealt with externally from vrml
itself. Although the proposal comes from Microsoft (which in itself bugs
me inexplicably) their ActiveVRML proposal appears to offer this
extensibility to vrml. Granted I have only read the WP on it, if it uses
vrml for modeling and has it's own animation schemes, it appears to meet
the suggestion posted here once before. I realize there is a lot of
concern about this proposal because of the source, even I am very leery
about accepting anything blatantly Microsoft, purchased or given. But if
these gentlemen had come up with this under any other name, would there be
as much concern? If we, as the vrml community can extract from Microsoft
the assurances (in some form of accessible legalese) of OPENNESS that this
community is based on (regardless of the plagiarism issues), I feel that
ActiveVRML, or whatever they want to call it, should be given fair study.

The true test of a teacher is the ability to accept when their students
have surpassed them...
