BAD: Not True in EE Times

A news story published in the Electronic Engineering Times has the
following text:

Silicon Graphics Inc., meanwhile, is developing a 3-D/VRML plug-in for the
beta release of
Netscape 2.0. It will be somewhat similar to Apple's QuicktimeVR, which is
now available,
but SGI considers its offering an improvement. "Being built right into the
browser is only the
first advantage," said SGI's Robert Weideman. "We've got seamless and
real-time VR, not like
some others, which just use a bunch of GIF files strung together."

Weideman claimed that "engineers will find the technology extremely
useful." He pointed to the
company's research site for a closer look; the address is
http://www.sdsc.edu/vrml.

First, I have never spoken to any reporter for EE Times and have never
issued the above quotes. Most important, I do not work for Silicon
Graphics. Template Graphics Software is an independent company.

The story claims that Java has been selected by the VAG as the
official behavior language of VRML. Quotes from Mark Pesce and
Yon are also included. I hope that any unilateral decisions on
this are as untrue as every line of text attributed to me.

This type of outright fiction is VERY bad, and so is the assertion that
the VAG has decided on behaviors. I encourage VAG members to correct
this.

Very pissed off at EE Times.
