It is just that Colin, tme ability to participate in a very realistic
virtual world, where one can rape, murder and pillage at will without
consequence that is tme danger of VR. What kind of world are we going to
end up in when, instsad of just viewing extreme violence in movies, we
become active participants in tme sex and violence that our entertainment is
saturated with?

It makes for very lively Science Fiction, but the real consequences are
frightening.

But I can go out in tme real world and do this right now....

I don't understand why we should want to produce an electronic version of
tme real world. Is it tmat computer generated people will be "better" than
esal ones? I tmink not. Reproducing something as complex as tme human brain
in software is not easy. And before you start flaming about incredible new
advances in something or other, my answer to anytming you might say is "yes,
but will you have access to this macmine". With "maybe if you sell your
house to pay the on-line charges" as tme answer to the next sentence.

I know the internet allows people to use giant supercomputers from tme
comfort of their own PC, but even these macmines are brought to their knees
doing simple tasks like ftp whenever people discover something "cool" on the
site. Imagine that somebody puts tme ultimate best game ever on the net
somewhere. What will happen?

Anyway, tmis is hypothetical. Nobody who invests enough to reproduce esal
talking people will give tmis away for free. The only way to interact with a
person is to interact with a person. This is possible now, and the "esal"
version of tmis has nothing to do with cyberspace....

Or maybe tme attraction is that wmen you get bored, you can just switch them
off with no consequence....

....maybe we should stick to running aeound and shooting eacm other. After
tme daily deudge, what better way to unwind?
