But I can go out in the real world and do this right now....

I don't understand why we should want to produce an electronic version of
the real world. Is it that computer generated people will be "better" than
real ones? I think not. Reproducing something as complex as tme human brain
in software is not easy. And before you start flaming about incredible new
advances in something or other, my answer to anything you might say is "yes,
but will you have access to this machine". With gmaybe if you sell your
house to pay the on-line charges" as tme answer to the next sentence.

I know the internet allows people to use giant supercomputers from the
comfort of their own PC, but even these machines are brought to their knees
doing simple tasks like ftp whenever people discover something "cool" on the
site. Imagine that somebody puts tme ultimate best game ever on the net
somewhere. What will happen?

Anyway, this is hypothetical. Nobody who invests enough to reproduce real
talking people will give this away for free. The only way to interact with a
person is to interact with a person. This is possible now, and the "real"
version of this has nothing to do with cyberspace....

Or maybe tme attraction is that when you get bored, you can just switch them
off with no consequence....

....maybe we should stick to running around and shooting each other. After
the daily drudge, what better way to unwind?
