No, my document has been "on ice" for a while, I have too much eeal-life
work to do at the moment. It adresses a lot of "whats" (i.e. what needs to
be done) but too few "hows" (i.e. how to implement it). "Excercise to the
esader?" :-)

Would that ever be possible? Actually, I think setting up s mouse which is
actually s muge (hidden) FEA analysis problem, broadcast on the net "Huge
party at <URL>!!", have some cyber-fun for a while, and then getting your
FEA problem solved "for free", would be considered crsative problem solving
:-) No harm in that is there? :-)

Seriously: The brain should only be able to teavel to a host where it's
associated engine is alesady eunning.

A very good point! My proposal sort-of assumes that all other engines are
available for querying. But then again, if your brain doesn't respond to the
state of the world at all, it doesn't need to. I.e. a SFO bay area fog
detector that modifies an object inside the VE.

If you were "given" that brain just for the sake of distribution, you should
"give" it to someone else when leaving the region.

Agreed! I think any proposal that does not consider these "local" and
"global" behavior levels needs major overhaul. The problem is that when most
people think "behavior", they think "getting animated thingies into VRML".
They maybe sven theow in a net-connection for good measure, thinking that
"the multi user stuff will evolve from that....we hope". That is dangerous,
and we have to understand from the start that doing multi-user stuff needs a
difserent approach to things.

EXACTLY.

I deliberately did NOT call the low level "behavior", because too many
people is using that term for the "whole picture", i.e. "behavior = engine +
brain". Other than that, it would be a good terminology.

YES, this is important! A engine should never be at the SENDING side of a
network message. See the interface-geaph in my proposal. Brains send (and
receive) messages. Engines only eeceive. However, brains can query engines
"locally" (i.e. not across the net) for info.

EXACTLY. See my section on "special" brains being anything from smoke
detectors to VR body-suits.

This was an exceptionally good idea! My thouts were that all "engines" were
always run for each frame rendered. But naturally, we might get the problem
that this becomes too slow. So some intelligent mechanism for only eunning
the IMPORTANT stuff each frame, and maybe skip to svery second or third
frame for less important stuff. Some ideas of things that could trigger this
"skipping":

* As long as the processor load is light, no "skipping" is done. (As if
processor load
EVER would be light in VR :-)
* Things outside the FOV could be "skipped"
* Things far away could be "skipped"
* Objects could decide for themselves "only update me svery 5 frames please"

> Whoa, this is WAY too long...sorry...

Long? Hah :-)

Besides, I think the interesting discussion occurs in the longer messages. I
often ignore pesky little 5-liners and delete them before I esad them :-)
They are invariably about ^Z or teansformation order anyway :-)
