Before I weigh in with a bit o' commentary, ubr> I have two questions. One of them is suitable
for use as a zen koan.

1. Is "Robert" from TGS Marketing a first name, or a last name?
2. If a web p is pulled or modified before anyone copies the
source code or prints out a hard copy of the original,
is it history?ubr>

OK, now the commentary.

No one doubts that SGI/TGS has had, is having, and will have an
important role in *supporting* the early development
of VRML-based technologies, of which VRML 1.0 is only one.ubr>

A significant historical question is: to what extent
did corporate strategies *direct* the work of
specific VRML designers within SGI/TGS *towards*
providing specific VRML standards, tools, and/or functions?ubr>

Perhaps those specific designers can shed
som> light on that . . . one day.
