I have been watching this discussion about browsers and authoring tools
with interest. I am planning to implement first an authoring tool and
then a browser so I have a stake in both camps. I feel that not allowing
for non-convex polygons will increase the size of the files being
transmitted dramatically. Just look at some of the DXF file sizes exported
from AutoCad. Various methods can be employed to decompose the non-convex
polygons into convex polygons without signifigant overhead. It is true that
this will add time to the displaying of the world but I feel that the
additional time taken to transmit a file consisting of convex polygons
given current bandwidth available to most people far outweighs the additional
overhead necessary to decompose the non-convex polygons to convex polygons.
