We

might be designed much less decide that they are not sufficient,
yet.

I definitely agree. In addition to optimization, if something were
hand
coded, converting it to different formats or taking advantage of
new
features becomes much more difficult and time consuming. I can see
an
authoring tool where VRML is not even the native type for that tool. My =
only
exception would be that I don't know what a feature that caters to
hand
coding
is?

Hello all. I have been following these threads for a while now, and =
although not versed in VRML, one reason I am still interested=

is in the same way HTML interested me. I have little or no access to =
many of the 3d Packages spoken of in this mail group, however my =
interest is great in that what I do for a living is CAD/CAM, therefore I =
would like to be able to try my hand at
VRML.
What I fear is that in providing a format, and there is a post (by whom =
I forget) in which the wording is similar , which states that the entire =
reason that the WWW became so popular was the ease of creating HTML. I =
am worried that in outputting compact binary form, authors will be =
limited to purchasing what may prove to be initially some spendy =
software, of which the likesy own will not be able to set a finger
upon.

What about binary for transmission, and an option to decode into an =
agreed upon 'language' per se, built into the authoring tool. That way, =
hand editing fanatics could try their hand, but most important, at least =
to myself, would be that somebody would be able to create a small filter =
executable or something which could be PD, and if they REALLY wanted to =
(however undesirable it may seem) they could hand edit, and learn the =
'language' if they were die hard enough for it. I hope I am not =
blundering into a lightning storm
here.
