Hi,

I'm new to VRML and I've spent the last few days looking around the VRML home-page and related sites. I think I'm getting the feel of things but there are still some questions that I haven't been able to find that answers to on the FAQs etc.

1. What exactly is the difference between OpenInventor and VRML (in terms of what they should be used for) ? My impression is that VRML is specific to the WWW and OI isn't. Is that the only difference?
2. Can you use VRML independently of the WWW? I want a nice Object Oriented language to create 3D worlds and so far VRML seems the most promising. I don't necessarily want to create Web pages though. Does anyone know of another language that might be useful?

I'm not sure if this mailing list is the appropriate place for such questions, if it isn't, could you please point down the yellow brick road?

Thanks,
