I've been doing some research over the last day with Virtus Walkthrough Pro
for Windows (v 2.0.1) and the DXF to IV conversion service at offered at
organic.com
They seem to work well together.
This means that Virtus Walkthrough Pro can be used now as a VRML authoring
tool. I have not tested anything but simple environments yet, but so far
things are looking good.
Converting Files from Virtus Walkthrough Pro to VRML
Open the .WTP file in Virtus Walkthrough Pro
Chose Export As... in the File menu and select the DXF-3D submenu
In the dialog, select:
Radiobutton 3DFACE ON # Uses face exporting
Radiobutton Objects ON # Color objects not layers
Radiobutton PC ON # Output to PC-style DXF-3D
Checkbox Use Extrusions OFF # Just to be on the safe side
The export DXF-3D file thus created can be placed in
ftp://ftp.organic.com/incoming/dxf and later retreived from
http://www.organic.com/vrml/ as a valid VRML 1.0 .wrl file.
I haven't tested any sophisticated shapes or textures, I'll post a complete
report in a couple of days.
Is anyone interested in testing this with a Macintosh version of Virtus
Walkthrough Pro?
