Avatar creation

All this talk about avatars interacting in virtual environments has me
thinking: when this does become a reality, there should be a way for the
user of a VRML browser to create the look of his/her avatar, which could
be anything from a male/female, to a spaceship, a walking statue, or a
horse. Whatever the user wants. Maybe there could be a really, really
simple modeler built in where the user can customize their look, or maybe
that'd be better handled by a separate application meant to do that.
I really like the idea of everybody having an avatar which interacts in
the virtual environment. Of course, you can decide whether you want to
see your own avatar walking around the room, or you can be in a
first-person view. But others in the same room could then see your avatar.
