I'm not Mark, but I can describe how the IMF is doing this. Two formats
are known to work -- 3DS and Strata DXF. In the case of Strata the object
much first be opened in 3DS and then saved in DXF again, which gives it
the proper flavor. Then, with an SGI IRIX box, one runs dxf2iv on the
resultant DXF files. Then you run iv2vrml. Both these executables are
only distributed for use on the SGI -- source code is not available.

There are quite a few people working on making this a bit better, although
as long as the only browsers run on NT and SGI we're still stuck not being
able to view our own files.
