I will apologize to the list and Neophytos Iacovou if my
message was interpreted as either a personal attack or an
anti-Gopher diatribe. I plead temporary insanity, having
just spent four days at IETF meetings in Danvers.

Let me rephrase my comments:

It seemed to me that the meaning of "WWW" and its
applicability to VRML should be obvious. I interpret
"anchor" and "inline" in VRML as attempts to build on and
integrate with the corresponding concepts in HTML. An
anchor is not a URL, or a Gopher menu item.

I am not anti-Gopher. I have implemented the protocol and
have no problem with its continued use and development.
I do believe that it, like HTTP and FTP and NNTP and SMTP
are simply parts of a wider whole that can usefully be
referred to as the WWW.

I was very excited to hear about the GopherVR development
and anxious to try it out. I really appreciate people making
the effort to make this kind of code publically available.
I am a software engineer and understand the work involved.
I would encourage people to do at least minimal testing of
packages before making them available, however. At least,
ask a friend on another machine to try it out first.
