If you want the IGES format registered quickly, ask for
application/iges, as you have done.

I can say with 100% certainty that registering a new top level
datatype in MIME will take TIME.
(For instance - do "3D movies" fit? do "3D pictures" without the
ability to interact with the model? is the "interactivity" of the 3D
object part of the object? What about a 2D variant of an interactive object?)

I don't have a position, I am just observing the process.
