CERN 2.17 HTSimplify problem with news: URLs

I think there is a problem with HTSimplify changing the case
of characters in news URLs. Does anyone have a patch already?

For example, using "www" in verbose mode I see:

HTSimplify.. `news:[email protected]' into
............ `news:[email protected]'
....
HTNews: Looking for news:[email protected]
Connecting to NewsHost ... ...
....
HTNews: Sending NNTP command: ARTICLE <[email protected]>
NNTP Response: 430 No article by message-id <[email protected]>, sorry.
