NCSA <inc srv...> update, still not ok

With a number of other people trying it from outside my domain, I find
that I get the message
date: unknown option(s)
[or was it "invalid option"?]
Anyway, I have tried 'ls' and 'uname', all returning this exact phrase...
help...
