To fill in the context for this transfer of a private email msg to a
broader audience: Mr. Harbo sent me email (I have since deleted it)
saying "I am writing a browser; don't be condescending; I see it's
late where you are so I'll take that into account" or something along
those lines; below, he quotes my email response to that.

Of course you can express your opinion, and of course I can either
disagree with it, or (as I in fact did) express surprise that the
situation affects you -- as I was in fact not aware that you are
writing a browser yourself.
Lately I have been getting pounded on from all sides on a number of
issues. The latest seems to be the fact that we have a more robust
parser/formatter than most other browsers. As is usual when I have
people on all sides telling me wildly contradictory things (it's
wonderful, it's horrible -- and yes, people do use those exact
adjectives), I'm not sure what to think. All I know is, Abe Lincoln
was right.
